Dance Of No Name and the Seven Chakras

What are CHAKRAS?

Chakra in sanskrit language means Wheel and is pointing out to the energy centers in the body . They are like spinning colored wheels of energy. We have many of these energy centres in our subtle bodies but mainly we are influenced by the main 7 chakras positioned throughout the body, starting from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.  In a healthy body the 7 chakras provide the right balance of energy to every part of the body, mind and spirit.

Balancing the chakras affect the wellbeing of our physical and emotional lives. All our habitual daily actions affect our energy body. We can balance our chakras by choosing the right diet and practices.

Dance and movements can affect these energy centres and helps with a healthy flow of the energy in these centres.

Each chakra has its own vibration, colors and specific function in the physical and emotional body.

Here, we will briefly go through the 7 chakras; Their name, their associated color, their function, useful Affirmation and sound for each Chakra.

Now that you have a general knowledge on the 7CHAKRAS let’s explore first a little intro on “Dance Of No Name” or “DONN” in short,   then I will take you into a journey of exploring the Seven chakras through the Seven Forms of “DONN”.

Dance Of No Name ( DONN )

DONN, is a conscious dance system.

A Moving meditation and a pathway toward meeting yourself in the most sacred space of your own being.

Dance of No Name is built upon “7 Forms” in which through each step we break through our conditioned patterns of movements and move beyond our limitations, having a sense of presence in all directions and connection to the breath in each and every moment….

7 forms in “DONN” are:

1-Open space,

2-Spiral,

3-Breaking,

4-Grounding,

5-Snaking

6-Contact,

7-Surrender

To me Dance Of No Name, is an instrument to reach the stage of Freedom through dance.

The 7 forms guide us into the discovery of different ways of movements in our body in order to free ourselves from limitations and repeating patterns…

It’s a roadmap leading us to surrender to the rhythm of life and find our own authentic way of dance…

We pass through the 7 forms and reach the state of “ Meditation” , Silence.

This is a journey for any souls who love to express themselves through their temple known as the Body,  in its most authentic and realistic way… This is a journey leading you back to your own heart…

********************************************************************

NOW that we’ve been through the “ 7 Chakras” and the “ 7 Forms” of DONN, let’s relate each Form in one of the Chakras and explore it into your dance practice.

Use the Color visualization, Affirmation , related sound for each chakra to get more benefit from balancing each Chakra through your movements.

*At the end of this Section you’ll find a link into a guided DONN playlist assisting you into exploring this journey.

The Seven Forms of DONN and the Seven Chakras:

1- Open Space :  Sixth Chakra or Third eye ( Ajna Chakra)

We start the journey of “ Dance Of No Name”   with “ Open Space”,

relating it to the third eye, as we are focusing on expansion of awareness into the space. Opening into our intuition and senses in order to be here and now ,alert and aware of the space we occupy and the space around us. The 4 directions, all the elements and the connection to our breath.

2- Spiral: Heart Chakra ( Anahata)

In spiral we connect to the centre of our being which is “ The heart”.

We dance around that circle in a circular way. Opening our heart and offering our heart to the sky and the earth.

A sufi practice called “ Sama” is the best introduction for this form.

Sufi whirling ( Sama) is a form of active meditation which originated among Sufis.

Founded by the Persian poet ( Jallaleddin RUMI) or Movlana as we call it in farsi( persian language).

The whirling in sufism is a practice in which the Dervishes( the sufi masters) reach to the reality of existence or the altimate which is called( Haghighat).

It’s a practice connecting us to our Heart.

In the Whirling the palm of the right hand is up , receiving the light from the sky and the Palm of the left hand is down, giving back to the earth and as we circle in the centre we become one with the whole universe. Sometimes the hands meet in the middle of our chest which is the “ Heart Centre”.

We are polishing our heart through this movement.

3-Breaking : Third Chakra or Solar plexus ( Manipura)

Breaking is related to our power.

As we break into pieces and we dance our breaking, we are then trying to put the pieces back together and make a shape out of it. What breaks in us is “Our power within” and what we do is to get back to our Power centre again and shine our light back into the world overcoming the shadows and heart breaks.

As Rumi said “ We are breaking Open”.

Opening into our power centre and reconnecting to our sun within.

This is the dance of breaking into our power centre.

4-Grounding : First Chakra or base Chakra ( Muladhara)

The grounding Form is :

Heavy, nurturing, powerful, confident, in touch with the earth…

You feel the energy growing from the ground through your feet and up to your whole body…

It is Awareness of balance in relation to the ground.

Taking us back to the roots of our being.

5- Snaking :  Second Chakra or Sacral Chakra (svadhistana)

Snaking is a reference to the “ serpent power” The kundalini movements….

Kundalini is bringing up the Shakti energy…

Kundalini Shakti is the cosmic energy known as the serpent power…

It is the fundamental life force…

Related to our emotions, desires and creative expressions.

It is also an expression of our sexualility and sensuality…

The sexual energy when restricted and limited brings blockage into our energy flow and also limits us into our movement… In order to be absolutely free and move in an authentic way, we need to release all the sexual tensions in us… We need to live our sexuality in its healthy and expressive way…

With this movement, We also activate our sexual force and make it a fuel to move us to our full potential…

To release all the shame around sexuality which has been consciously or unconsciously entered our collective mind and made us insecure about how we are… As we are sexual beings and have been born out of it… Sex is sacred and when is cherished and acknowledge in us, we feel confident. happy and at peace with who we are…

You can not separate your sexuality from yourself. By restricting it ,it only brings limitation, perversion, depression and many other issues who sometimes don’t recognise…

We need to move this energy so that it flows into our whole being…

When the sexual energy is freely moving in us, we live in ecstasy… It’s like having an orgasmic experience with the whole universe…

We need to feel comfortable and at ease and at peace with our sexual energy… Then only we can be complete in who we really are…

We can use sexual energy to move in higher consciousness… By restricting it we just go down and become rigid and narrow… then, How can we move in ecstasy when we are limited in our mind about our nature of being?

The union of Shiva Shakti is sacred to us and that energy is the explosion of our energy force…

Needed for us to become whole…

The energy moves in a circular way around our chakras , like a serpent….

7- Contact : Fifth Chakra or Throat Chakra ( Vishuddha)

In Dance we communicate through our bodies.

The Communication In DONN, starts with contact with yourself…

To be able to connect and create contact with another body, you first need to know your own body… Connect your body, to your feelings and sensations… To know your boundaries and how comfortable you feel with touch…

Once you find a strong connection within yourself and start to connect to your own body… Only then you start to share that connection with another soul through your bodies…

It is important first to feel safe and confident in your own skin, only then you can recognise what touch and contact you feel safe with and start to play…

Contact is a form in which you become in contact with yourself, others, with the room you are dancing in and with all that exists around you…

It’s a way to communicate with existence in all ways…

This is where a real community will take form…

It is supportive, understanding, safe, gentle, meditative, playful, caryng, loving, respectful, attentive, loving and intuitive.

8- Surrender : Seventh Chakra or Crown Chakra(Sahasrara)

We go through all forms and we reach here, where we are reminded now to Surrender…

to let go of any control…

To let your body arrive in the arms of mother earth…

To arrive home…

To surrender your whole dancing body and beating heart to the ground…

The surrender form is where we are connecting to the Divine.

It’s the most meditative form…

You can close your eyes reaching this state…

Surrender yourself down to the floor and move in a somatic way…

Like swimming in the water…

A preparation into stillness…

It is TRUST… Trusting your heart… Trusting your process… Trusting your dance… Trusting your community… Trusting life…

It is just to be! To surrender and move in a grateful way in which you declare your love for the whole existence…

It is where you feel Home in your own centre of being…

It is where you let yourself into the arms of mother earth and Let her take care of everything…

Just be… enjoy and accept all as it is…

Dance in slow motion leading you into the Nothingness and togetherness…

Into the union of being…

It is where you find yourself in an Unlimited source of inspiration…

It is pure,unconditional Love…
